Kathleen Van Dusen

Van Dusen, Kathleen
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Kathleen (Kay) Teresa Van Dusen (nee Quinlan), peacefully, at the age of 97 years on February 14, 2017 at the Village of Humber Heights. Kathleen leaves behind her children Michael (Mary) Robert (Josephine) Mary Ellen (William) and Gregory (Leslie), many grandchildren and great grandchildren who all loved her a great deal. She will be dearly missed by her sisters Helen (Larry) and Margaret (Thomas). She is predeceased by her beloved husband of 60 years John Ford Van Dusen, and her brothers, Maurice, Tom, Bill and Jack.
Born in Newcastle Ontario the family moved to Toronto when she was one year of age. The oldest daughter of 7 children she grew up looking after her siblings, great aunts and uncles and eventually becoming the matriarch of her family. Kathleen was a warm and loving woman who was devoted to family, and to her faith. She volunteered many hours to the Catholic Women’s League and in later life drove patients to cancer treatments at Princess Margaret Hospital. Her working career started as a substitute teacher for the Separate School Board where she went on to be a school Secretary and finally the head of the Association of School Secretaries before retiring. She will be remembered by her family for her love of life, her sense of humor, her resilience and for making everyone feel at home. The family would like to thank, Lisa, Mercy and Christina for their wonderful care of our Mother during the last 10 years of her life. We would also like to thank the staff of the Village of Humber Heights.
Friends will be received at the Ward Funeral Home, 2035 Weston Road (north of Lawrence Ave. W.)
