Karen Joanne Young

February 4 1956 - March 13 2025

The youngest of four children, Karen was an accomplished student, earning a degree in social work at Ryerson University. During her rewarding career with the Canadian federal civil service she took a leadership role with Canada Customs and Revenue Agency.

In retirement Karen wrote a novel, East of the Dawn, in the magical realism style, and was an active member of the Etobicoke Camera Club where she distinguished herself as a top-notch photographer, specializing in natural environments: images of landscapes and details of insects, birds, leaves and flowers. Karen loved the beauty of the natural world.

Her friend June West beautifully expressed what many of us feel: "She was a quiet, kind, and thoughtful person. I will miss her whenever I go out with my camera without her."

Karen’s presence and generosity of spirit will be deeply missed by her friends, by her brother Bill, and by her sisters Gayle and Janet. Our family would like to express appreciation to the thoughtful and kind staff members of the St. Joseph’s palliative care unit.
