Julien René Wong-lun-hing, born October 27, 1924, in Paramaribo, Suriname to parents Anna Wilhelmina Francina (née Labadie) and Joshua Willem Samuel Wong-lun-hing, passed away peacefully at the Markdale Hospital on July 31, 2022 on a bright sunny afternoon.
Funeral service will be held at Augsburg Evangelical Lutheran Church on Monday, August 8, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at 224 Mill Street South, Brampton led by Pastor Nadine. Burial will follow at the Brampton Cemetery at 10061 Chinguacousy Road. Visitation will be held at the Ward Funeral Home at 52 Main Street South, Brampton on Sunday, August 7, 2022, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.
Julien met his wife Ursy (née Bartelink) in Suriname and together they had two children Yvonne and Henna; and, he was also stepfather to Matt. Julien left Suriname with his family to start a new life in the Netherlands in 1963, and they married in Amsterdam on December 24, 1964. For the first few years he worked at a sawmill until he found a new job at KLM Airlines as a fuel tank mechanic for the airplanes; an admirable career which lasted from 1968 to 1987. After his retirement, Julien started a new adventure and moved to Canada to be with his children and grandchildren. He became a citizen in November of 2013. Aside from dedicating his time to his family, Julien loved woodworking, riding his bicycle, and even racing his bicycle sometimes.
Julien is survived by an extensive family who adored him for his humour and kindness. He leaves behind his daughter Henna and husband Gerald Henderson, with whom he shared his life; half-sister Gerlien; half-brother Ernie; nephews Martijn, Anthony, and Jurgen (Agata), stepson Matt (Peggy); son-in-law Anthony Devonish; grandchildren Esmay (Sam), Edlia (Ryan), Julien (Andreea); step-grandchildren Wayne and Luciene; great-grandchildren Bennett, Orlando, Gabriel, Jordan, Jevonte, Leeyah, and Aria; and step-grandchildren Jahwen, Julani, and Shaquile.
He is preceded in death by his loving daughter Yvonne, his sister Willie, as well as two half-brothers, Jessie and Clark.
