Joyce Elsie Peneycad, 95, went home to be with her Lord on March 7, 2025. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, and a faithful friend, mentor, and teacher.
Joyce was born to Harry and Florence (Cogger) Moore on December 13, 1929 in Toronto, Ontario. She graduated from Vaughan Road Collegiate and Toronto Normal School, leading to her career teaching kindergarten at various elementary schools in Toronto. She married Donald Charles Peneycad on May 22, 1954, who remained the love of her life for over 70 years.
Joyce was a woman of deep faith, which led her to devote her time and talents in ministry at Westmount Park Church, teaching Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, leading the Ladies Coffee Hour, serving on the missions committee, and many other capacities. Beyond investing in her local church, she was a strong supporter of various missions ministries, including: Fair Havens Bible Conference, Men for Missions, OMS International, Crossworld, and Compassion International. Joyce was a world traveler who enjoyed visiting extended family in England and serving on missions trips to various countries/continents. She applied these cross-cultural experiences locally through teaching English as a Second Language (ESL) to new immigrants in Etobicoke. She was an avid reader, enjoyed baking and knitting, and time with family - especially her grandchildren! Joyce lived a long, independent, and abundant life and will be remembered for her quiet spirit, kindness, hospitality, joy, and faith. She will be deeply missed.
Joyce was preceded in death by her brother, Arthur, and her parents. She is survived and will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Donald, and her sons, Brian (Diane), David (Jori), Ron (Pauline), and John (Elizabeth), as well as her 10 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will take place at Ward Funeral Home (Weston) from 6 - 9 p.m. on April 2nd. A celebration of Joyce’s life will take place at 11 a.m. on April 3rd at Capstone Community Bible Church, 763 Royal York Rd, Etobicoke. The family will greet visitors before the service. Light refreshments will be served at a reception afterwards.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider contributing to one of the following organizations: Capstone Community Bible Church, Compassion International Canada, or Crossworld Canada.
