With great sadness the family announces the death of our dear aunt and cousin in her 91st year. The middle child of Jack and Ethel Hudson, she was predeceased by her parents and her sister Doreen, her brother Spencer and her husband Art Burnell. She is lovingly remembered by Jackie Hudson and her daughter Hannah, David and Maria Hudson and their children Jack and Carla, Valerie Needham, Tracey Read and countless friends and relations in Canada and Ireland. Joyce lived a full and rich life, teaching elementary school, volunteering in the community and assisting others in a tapestry of connectedness. She was an active in St. John’s United Church, the Retired Women Teachers Association, and the Oakville Historical Society and she spearheaded the successful campaign to save the 250-year-old Woodlands White Oak Tree. She was honoured by her community by being awarded the Community Spirit Award and Senior Citizen of the Year Award. A woman of abiding faith who called herself a Prayer Warrior, she has gone home to be with the Lord, leaving we who remain behind to miss the sharpness of her mind, her fertile creativity and her interest in our lives. Flowers gratefully declined. However, Joyce was a generous contributor to a number of charities and so a donation to Amnesty International, World Vision Canada or a charity of your choice would be apprecitated. Friends may call at the Ward Funeral Home "Oakville Chapel", 109 Reynolds Street, Oakville on Wednesday March 16th, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A funeral service will be held at St. John's United Church, 262 Randall Street, Oakville on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. A book of memories can be signed at www.wardfuneralhome.com
