Joy Merritt

Joy Janice Reece Merritt, born on March 1, 1955, in the San Fernando Valley of Trinidad and Tobago, the fourth of twelve children for Hoodley and Ena Reece,

She fell asleep in death on December 7, 2018, after a long battle with numerous health issues. Joy was a beloved mother, wife, grandmother, sister and friend.

Survived by her husband, Marvin, five children, Tabitha, Tanya, Djallon, Dante, Tiffany and eight grandchildren, Jayden, Alysha, Angel, Onyx, Jacob, Darius, Wyatt and Genesis,

Joy gave all she had for the happiness of her family. Her strength and wisdom brought others comfort and her name truly exemplified her presence in the lives she touched. Pure Joy.

Her favorite place was Maracas Beach in Trinidad. She loved her ripe mango, hot sauce and black cake. Her favorite color was red and her favorite song was “somewhere over the rainbow” sung by Israel Kamakawiwo’ole.

Now she sweetly rests in eternal peace with the Prince of Peace.
