Passed peacefully and gracefully at her home at the Wesburn Manor in Etobicoke at the age of 92. Born in rural Nova Scotia, Joy had a lifelong love for her many friends and family on the Eastern Shore. Her young life was filled with card parties, church suppers, square dances and swimming in the Atlantic waters off Pope’s Harbour. She met her beloved husband Jack during World War II, they married in Nova Scotia, and lived their devoted lives together in Dartmouth and Toronto, raising sons Jack, Don, Colin and Scott. Joy devoted her life to her family and was a consummate wife and mother. Daughter of Everett and Bella Hilchie, predeceased by her brother Don, grandmother of Kelly, Dylan, Drew, Dana, Alyssa and Grant. Aunt to many nieces and nephews. Many thanks to the extraordinary staff at Wesburn for their kindness and care. Friends will be received at the Ward Funeral Home 2035 Weston Road (north of Lawrence Ave) Weston, on Sunday April 12, 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. A service will be held in the chapel at the Ward Funeral Home on Monday April 13 at 11:00 am followed by a brief reception. Interment to follow at Sanctuary Park Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Alzheimer Society of Canada would be greatly appreciated.
