Joe Sargo

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Jose "Joe" Venceslau Martins Sargo of Brampton, Ontario on October 5, 2024 at the age of 66. 

Joe was born on September 28, 1958 in Funchal, Madeira, Portugal to parents Agostinha Martins and Jose Sargo. He took his first of many plane rides in 1965 when his family relocated to Toronto, Ontario. Joe's youth in Ontario was full of new experiences, eventually leading to him joining the air cadets and sparking his lifelong passion for flying.

After graduating from Central Technical School and briefly driving taxis around Toronto, Joe went on to fly throughout the 1980s in northern Ontario and Manitoba. This included flying for Medevac where he met a nurse named Carol who would become his wife. 

In the early 1990s, Joe accomplished two of his life's greatest achievements: having his 2 children, Curtis and Shelby, and graduating from engineering school at the University of Guelph. Joe would go on to spend the rest of his life wearing his engineering pinky ring with pride and doing anything and everything for his kids. 

Joe's engineering background and passion for flying led to him doing technical writing and flight simulation for the Dash 8 Q400 aircraft. He spent countless hours over more than 20 years working on and flying the Dash 8, including training other pilots to fly the aircraft.

Those who knew Joe would agree he was one-of-a-kind. He had a gift for friendship, flair for fashion, and spread joy and laughter everywhere he went. His joyous spirit will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Joe will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 35 years, Carol; his children, Curtis and Shelby and her husband Zach; his brother, Manuel; his brother, Armando and his wife Wilma and their son Liam; and many other relatives and friends.

A visitation and memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 19, 2024 at Ward Funeral Home at 52 Main Street South in Brampton, Ontario from 11:00am to 1:00pm, followed by a reception from approximately 1:00pm to 4:00pm. Interment will take place at a later date.
