Mason, Joseph James April 2 1945 – September 23, 2016
Joseph James Mason (Daddy) passed on September 23rd 2016. He was 71 years young and doing one of his favourite pastimes; talking to his wife. Daddy was father to, Donna, Geoffrey, Megan, Mark, Nelly, Patricia, Phyllis, Cecil, Derrick, Beverly, Jeannie and Anthony. As everyone got older it wasn’t unusual to have friends in the house that would come for a sleepover and elect to stay longer, eventually just calling him Daddy too.
Daddy was a welder by trade and worked for many years at CCM to GM and the Iron Workers Union. Daddy met and married his wife Lucille and they built a life in Toronto where they raised their family.
Daddy is predeceased by his mother and father Arthur and Geena, siblings, Hermine, Freddie, Ida, Ken and Lloyd. He is survived by his wife Lucille, his children, their spouses, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and a sister Gwendoline who resides in the United Kingdom.
The idea that when we call the house and his voice is not the voice you hear when the phone is picked up is daunting – he had a great gift of gab. He was so funny, like dressing up in the same velvet purple sweatshirt whenever he had to run errands with his wife (even when it would ride up with wear and he refused to retire it). She put it in a plastic bag and put it on the curb one night before bed, only to see Daddy wearing the sweatshirt the next time they were running errands. Let’s just say that the shirt disappeared the day after he went to visit his brother in Boston. In the last 16 years he’s been plagued with a lot of ailments, many life-threatening but he has pulled through with a positive attitude. We all celebrate your life Daddy. We will miss you, we love you. Always.
