José Da Costa Amaral, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, uncle and friend, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday March 15th in the evening, with family at his side.

José (Vavô to his grandchildren) was born on May 7, 1935, in Rabo de Peixe, Açores, to Manuel Duarte and Maria Angelina Amaral. In 1958 he married Maria da Gloria and had 5 children. José leaves behind his family that he loved and cherished very much: his wife Maria da Gloria of 63 years, his children, Fatima (Paul) Couto, Fr. Liborio Amaral, Angie (Joe) Resendes, José (deceased at birth) and David Amaral. Loving grandfather of Jonathan (Charlotte), Nicholas (Rachel), Christopher (Kristina), Jacob (Nicole), James and Anna (Mani). Loving great-grandfather to Liam, Owen, Matteo, Ethan, Amelia, Luca and Marco. Brother to Manuel (Lourdes) Amaral and brother-in-law to Padre Liborio Tavares (deceased), José Maria (Maria José, deceased) Tavares, Isaura (José, deceased) Silva, Paul (Judite) Tavares, Antonio (Fatima) Tavares (deceased) and Margarida Tavares (deceased).

José immigrated with his family to Canada on March 16th, 1969 and made their home in Brampton where he worked at IKO and then as Custodian of St. John Fisher Parish (Bramalea) for over 25 years.

Although José had only four years of schooling, he was a scholar at heart. He was an avid amateur of many trades: electrician, musician, theologian, professor of education, carpenter, taxi driver, gardener, wood carver, arborist, computer nerd, political pundit, and much more. He was a lifelong learner and had an inquisitive mind. But most of all José was a dedicated family man who was always there for his family whenever they needed him.

Finally, José was a man of faith - he believed in Jesus Christ and the Catholic Church that Christ instituted. He attended Mass every day, and did not fail to fulfil his Sunday Obligation until his health did not permit him to do so. The rosary was a constant companion and he desired to see the face of God.

A funeral mass will be held on Monday March 20th (transferred Feast Day of St. Joseph) at St. Mary’s Church in Brampton at 11am. He will be laid to rest at Assumption Cemetery.

In Lieu of flowers, his family requests donations to be made to ShareLife.
