It is with great sadness that the Papajani family announces the passing of Jorgo Papajani, brother, husband, father, grandfather and a great friend to many.

Jorgo was born on November 25 1940, the son of Miltiadh and Eleni Papajani. He grew up during the war, and the poverty that plagued all Balkan during that time.

At 18, he was drafted in the military. Having showed excellent abilities, he was soon offered a position as an army officer. After completing his duty of three years in the military, he returned home and started an apprenticeship as a carpenter, a skill he practiced and taught for the rest of his life.

In 1964 he got married to our mother, Elefteria, his loyal companion of 57 years. Together they had three children: Roland, Dritan and Florian.

The Papajani family emigrated to Greece in 1990 where he continued to work as a carpenter. In 2000, the family moved to Canada, but Jorgo’s heart was where he grew up, in Lukova, where he spent a few months every summer.

Jorgo overcame many health issues over the years, surgeries, diabetis, medications, however he never conceded to the disease. He loved walking daily and maintaining a very healthy diet.

Jorgo was well respected among his friends and anyone he crossed paths with. In some cultures, a person dies when the last memories of him die. We will keep him alive in our hearts, minds and continue to tell his stories.

Jorgo will be deeply missed by his sister Sofia, brother Dhimitraq, wife Elefteria, sons, Roland, Dritan and Florian, their wives Kaliopi, Agathi, Rebecca and his nieces and nephews Elefteria, George, David, Marisa, Sofia and Philip.
