John passed away peacefully in his 94th year with his family by his side on Wednesday October 7, 2015 at Sunrise Retirement Home in Aurora. John was predeceased by his loving wife Eleanor Elizabeth (nee Towler), and his new partner in life Sarah Paterson Bosomworth.
John leaves his three children Peter and (Gerri), Patricia and (Paul), and Victoria and (David). He was blessed with 7 grandchildren, Mathew, Meredith, Kate, Jeremy, Scott, Christopher and Taylor as well as 4 great grandchildren, David, Forrest, James and Aaron. As well he will be missed by his brother Gerald (Bud) and sister-in-law Peg. He was also predeceased by his sister Helen Tredinnick.

John enlisted in the army in 1942 after his first year of Civil Engineering at U of T. He served with the 4th Amoured Division, 23rd Field Regiment as a gunner. He took part in the fight to close the Falaise gap in Normandy and the march across Europe. The war ended for John on March 12, 1945 when as he put it, "I was in the wrong place at the wrong time". He arrived home aboard the "Lady Nelson" three months later. He then continued with his Engineering degree. After graduating in1949 he married Eleanor who, as he said, " made the best, most entertaining fourth at bridge" that he had ever met.

John enjoyed a 36 year career at M.T.O. At his retirement in 1985 he held the position of Executive Director of the Municipal Transportation Division. Following his official retirement he continued as an active member with the A.P.E.O, as well as consulting for the T.T.C. John was also extremely proud of his association with the Royal Canadian Heraldry Society serving as a long time member and as their Secretary.

He will be missed by his family and friends.
Funeral to be held on Tuesday, October 13th at 11:00a.m. at St. Philips Church, 31 St. Phillips Rd. Toronto. Internment and reception for follow.
