John Vanderwel
94 years, passed away peacefully, Thursday December 3, 2015 at the Holland Christian Homes. Loving husband of the late, Aty Vanderwel. Father of Gerald (Lydia), Gundy (Don), Arlen (Kathy), Ralph (Nancy) and MaryAnn (Bruce). Dear Grandfather of Scott (Krista), Tara (Billy), Ryan (Erin), Mark (Michelle), Glen (Janice), Carson, Zach and Sydney. Great-Grandfather to Jared, Owen, Tucker, Jensen, Gavin, Ashley, Connor, Logan and Nathan. Dear brother of 10 siblings. Uncle to many nieces and nephews, and a friend to many. John was born in De Leer, The Netherlands, and immigrated to Canada after his service to the Dutch army in Indonesia, which followed World War II. He quickly settled in Oakville, after a short time in Leamington, ON, and started his lifelong career at Gulf Oil Refinery. During his retirement he spent his time enjoying his home and garden and looking after his wife. Together they moved to Holland Christian Homes, where they both completed their journey at peace and with constant faith in God’s presence in their lives and in their deaths.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to World Vision, one of his favorite charities.
