John Jacob Krul passed away peacefully at Faith Manor in Brampton on Saturday, May 7, 2022 in his 93rd year.
Predeceased by his wife, Thea and his eldest daughter, Cathy, he is survived by his three children, Bob, Judy, and Trish, and by his 13 grandchildren and 2 great-granddaughters. He also had a strong relationship with his last surviving brother in Holland, Wim (Heleen).
Born in Amsterdam during the depression, he experienced the difficult days of WW2 before finding his passion in cabinet making, his wife, and his new daughter. He knew he needed to offer a better opportunity for him and his family and in 1953, Canada was it. He always felt it was a good decision.
John was a faithful member of his church in Acton where they lived for 40 years. He contributed his time as elder and teacher, took part in many social activities from drama club to church picnics, and led the building committee to design and build the original church building in the 60’s. His hand made steeple, communion table, and baptismal font are still in use today. The last 20 years his church community was Heritage CRC at Holland Christian Homes where he attended regularly.
His rebirth in faith after a difficult childhood made it even stronger and it was his rock throughout his adult life until death. He shared it openly with everyone and it provided comfort in his final days.
He will be remembered as a man of character, a talented woodworker, an avid gardener, and especially as a loving husband, father, and grandfather. His words of wisdom will be missed.
Plans are being made for a private burial at a later date. As an expression of sympathy donations may be made to Lighthouse for Homeless Children https://lighthousecentre.ca/donate/
