It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of John Healey on Sunday, May 31, 2020. Born in Toronto in 1935, John was a loving husband and father of three children. In his late teens, John joined the Canadian Armed Forces and served in the navy for 25 years, reaching the rank of Chief Warrant Officer. His time in the service allowed him to not only partake in peacekeeping missions but also to see the world.
More importantly his time in the service brought him to Halifax where he met and married the love of his life Joan Marie Clark on July 9, 1956. Together they raised two sons, David and Paul and one daughter, Theresa. John was a fine athlete playing organized hockey, baseball and softball. In his later years, he took to the links and found considerable success as a golfer. He also enjoyed watching sports, in particular, he was a big fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Toronto Blue Jays. At home he liked to listen to music and watch films, especially westerns to relax. He was known for his laid back personality and sense of humour which endeared him to everyone he met. As an empathetic and caring man with a strong sense of right, he continually voiced concern about the injustice and inequity that is prevalent in society today.
He is preceded in death by his wife Joan and son Paul. He is survived by a number of brothers and sisters including Eddie, Carol, David and Joan, his son David, his daughter Theresa, his grandchildren Ashley, Alex, Alli and Robyn and by his great-grandchildren Madison and Logan.
Due to current circumstances, a private family service is being held. Condolences and messages for the family can be left and would be appreciated.
