It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved John Civiero on September 25, 2024.
John was deeply devoted to the two loves of his life: His life partner, Jim, and their precious dog, Miss Mia. John was loving, caring, passionate and loyal to all his family and friends from his community, condo building, Panama and Italy.
John was predeceased by his parents Romano and Olga. He is survived by sister Luciana (Tony) and brother Ron (Ida). John was a proud uncle to Emily, Christian and Clara, and grand-uncle to Samuele and Gaia. John remained close to many of his relatives in Italy and he cherished time with them on numerous occasions.
John always had an open heart and he truly valued close friendships throughout his life. He fulfilled his career passion working as an elementary teacher. Throughout his career, he was well respected and loved by all staff, parents and students alike. John was a very proud Italian man. Everyone who knew him was aware of his love of food and cooking. This extended to growing basil, rosemary, sage and of course, Italian parsley every summer on his balcony. His gardening skills further expanded to growing and caring for a wide array of flowers.
John always enjoyed travelling, particularly, to Italy and most recently, to Panama. Yet, he always looked forward to coming home to Toronto. Home is where John’s heart always was. His devotion to Miss Mia (and her wide array of outfits in her very own wardrobe!) made both John and Mia recognizable icons in his neighbourhood. It was impossible to go for a walk without someone stopping John and Mia for a chat, including strangers!
Jim was the love of John’s life. Their devotion toward each other was clearly evident to those who spent time with them. Without a shadow of a doubt, John’s memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved him.
We would like to acknowledge the kindness and compassion given by the emergency department health care team of St. Michael’s Hospital. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to The Heart & Stroke Foundation, or a charity of your choice.
