With heavy hearts we announce the peaceful passing of John Jeremiah Carroll on July 30, 2022 in his 91st year. John was very happily married but predeceased by his first wife Patricia Marie (nee Sands) of 44 years. He was fortunate to find love again with his second wife Norene (nee Fontyn) and they enjoyed 15 wonderful years together. John was a very loving family man and leaves behind his daughters Elizabeth (David) Cox and Cathy (Peter) Knoll along with 6 wonderful grandchildren and a new granddaughter in law: Evans, Caroline, Liam, Andrew (Simryn), Victoria and Daniel.
John was also very proud of his 3 stepsons; John (Yvette), Pat (Maria) and Paul (Carey) along with their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

John had a great childhood growing up in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia as 1 of 4 children. He is predeceased by his parents Evans and Lexina Carroll along with his sisters Virginia (Myles) Doody and Peggy (Carl) Dubicki and is survived by his brother Hugh (Carol). He enjoyed playing hockey on the ponds and eventually went to St Francis Xavier and Nova Scotia Tech to become an electrical engineer. His engineering career took him to Ontario where he met Patricia and started his own family. John enjoyed many successful years working for Ontario Hydro but always enjoyed returning to Cape Breton for family visits and of course his favorite lobster rolls.

John’s happiest times were spent with his family. He was a dedicated husband and father. He loved serving up pancakes Sunday morning after church or going to the “Pancake House” with his extended family (sister Peggy, husband Carl along with their children Anne, Carl, John and Lara). There were many memorable times there along with other joint family excursions. He loved playing bridge with his siblings and then euchre with the kids as they grew up. There were many enjoyable nights of competition including the time he and his nephew John dressed up in capes and came into the room to the “Rocky” theme song just to try to psych the rest of us out!

He was an avid golfer and curler having achieved a few "holes in one" and also an 8 ender in curling. He loved hosting Christmas and Easter brunches at the Weston Golf and Country Club. When the grandchildren were young he loved running around with them for the Canada Day festivities and watching the Easter bunny and Santa Claus come in to spoil the grandkids!

John was always eager to volunteer and help those less fortunate. He was very involved with the Church, Knights of Columbus, teaching the Rosary at the local elementary school, and helping with the food banks. His goal was to make life better for all those around him. He was kind, sweet, thoughtful and had a great respect for others but always brought a sense of playfulness and humor to all situations. He was known for his corny jokes and funny pranks but also his very caring attitude. He will be truly missed by all those who knew him. The worlds loss is heaven’s gain.
