Suddenly yet very peacefully in his 91st year, at Trillium Queensway Health Centre in Mississauga on Friday October 21st. Beloved husband of Rita Margaret Brooks (nee Guinane) who predeceased him in 1994. Dear father of Jack (Helen), Bill (Janet). Loving grandfather to Jennifer (Kevin), Michael (Mary), Aimee and Cory and loving great grandfather to Ben, William, Sam, Maxwell and little Michael.
John was born in the lower east end of Toronto but moved to the west end where he grew up. An accomplished athlete, John excelled at football, track and field, lacrosse and baseball. John enlisted in the RCAF where he became a Pilot Officer right at the end of WWII. Following the war John met the love of his life Rita, whom he married on March 17th, 1946. He then launched into a very successful career as an aircraft engineer, having worked for 37 years at A. V. Roe, Lockheed, DeHavilland and Douglas Aircraft.
Friends and family will be received at a Celebration of Life for John at the Ward Funeral Home 52 Main Street South in Brampton on Thursday October 27th from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM. A private family service and cremation will follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers a donation to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario would be appreciated.
