John Oliver Air
It is with great sadness that our family announces the passing of John on October 5, 2023. John was born in Toronto on February 28, 1926. He will be dearly missed by his beloved children Nancy (Don), John Jr., Jeffrey (Diane) and Paula (Ted). John was predeceased by his daughter Patricia (John) in 1994 and wife Mary in 2015. John was a loving grandad (“Papa”) to Vittoria, Mark, Pamela (James), Kyle, Owen, and Gemma, and great-grandad to Maya and Emma. Close brother to Sandy and Fred, and predeceased by siblings George, Peter and Betty. He will be fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews. John was a veteran of WWII having served in the Royal Canadian Air Force. In 1953, John married Mary and they went on to raise 5 children and celebrate 62 years of marriage. John started his career in the paint business as a commercial sales representative at Glidden and Sherwin-Williams, and then opened his own paint business. Despite the demands of running a small business, John always found time to spend with his family, taking them on annual summer vacations to places like Vermont, South Carolina, and Muskoka. John’s devotion to family, his remarkable sense of humour and quick wit will be sorely missed. We would like to thank the staff at Sunnybrook Veterans Centre L Wing for their dedication and exceptional care. Family and friends will be received at the Ward Funeral Home, 2035 Weston Road (north of Lawrence Ave. W.) on Thursday October 12 from 4-8 p.m. A service will be held on Friday October 13 at 11 a.m. at Humbervale United Church, 1447 Royal York Road. Interment at Prospect Cemetery with reception to follow. If desired, donations to the Sunnybrook Veterans Grant a Wish Program would be appreciated.
