Joanna passed away with her husband at her side on September 18th, 2018 at Hospice Simcoe in Barrie at the age of 89. She was born in Halfweg, the Netherlands on November 25, 1928. After studying economics for 4 years, Joanna came first to the United States and then to Canada, where she met and married Albert in 1955. She worked at the Royal Bank as a secretary for several years, and after her children were in school she also served as school secretary for over 25 years at Toronto District Christian High School in Woodbridge. Perseverance was a word that would describe Joanna as she worked through challenges her life. She enjoyed simple pleasures such as a walk in the woods, chatting over coffee with friends, and spending time with her grandchildren, and will be remembered for her humbleness and hospitality, and for serving in so many different ways behind the scenes.
Joanna will be dearly missed by her loving husband of 63 years, Albert, and her children, Linda (the late Tony) & Ron (Sharon). Grandchildren include Kerri (Rob), Dana (David), Luke, (the late Joel), Ben, Jordan & Joyelle, and great-grandchildren are Cody, Wesley, Austin, Selah, Joseph & Ezra.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff at Roberta Place for their excellent care during the months Joanna was there, the nurses and doctors at Royal Victoria Hospital who also cared for her with excellence, all the wonderfully caring & helpful staff and volunteers at Hospice Simcoe, and all those who held up her & the family in prayer during this difficult time
