Joan Keene

Joan Elizabeth (Espey) Keene September 30, 1927- November 13, 2021

Born on September 30, 1927 in Dungannon Ireland and immigrated to Toronto with her parents and brothers when she was 2 years old. Joan grew up in Mimico and attended Mimico High. She married Bert Keene in 1951. Bert passed away in 1980. Bert and Joan had 3 children, Bert (passed away in 2020), Barbara (David) Gourlay and Lorna Egan (Steve Janisch). Joan’s long time partner was Bud(Charles) Ridley passed away in 2020.

She is survived by 6 grandchildren James Keene, Ali Keene, Lindsay(Dave) Snacki, Matthew(Jenna) Gourlay, Jeff (Melissa) Egan, Jenna(Teddy)Blackman and 5 great grandchildren Payne Gourlay, Keene Snacki, Carter Snack, Riley Blackman and Theo Blackman.

Joan was very involved in the Mississauga chapter of Alpha Epsilon during the 70’s and became a volunteer for The Canadian Cancer Society and The Canadian Kidney Foundation.

Her many friends included the Muskoka Rest group and the Woodeden Wanderers. Through the last 75 years of her life, Betty Nichol was her best friend.

Lorna and I would also like to thank Janet Keene and Doug Hannan for being with mom on Friday night and letting us and her grandchildren send our love and final farewells to her.
