JOAN ELIZABETH BROCK
Passed away on Thursday, May 13 at the age of 86.
Joan Elizabeth Brock was born to John and Elizabeth Seager in Orillia in January 1935. She began her teaching career in 1953. In 1955, she married Ross Brock and they enjoyed 65 incredible years together, raising two amazing daughters, Cherryl (Stanley Moote) and Gayla (Brian Woodland.) They were blessed with three wonderful grandchildren, Victoria and Brock Moote (Carmen Keung) and Matthew Woodland. She loved much, and was much loved.
Joan was known for her great love of life and nature. She was the world’s best Mom and Grandma, extraordinary cook and a good, kind person through and through. She always had a positive view and a kind word for everyone. Her deep sense of caring filled every part of her life, including her years as an educator. Hundreds of Peel children were fortunate to have had Mrs. Brock as their teacher.
Joan enjoyed travelling in Canada, the U.S.A., and the Caribbean. In 1995, Joan and Ross took their first cruise. They were avid ballroom dancers and this experience led to 34 more cruises. They saw the world this way. And Joan was at her happiest, planning her next cruise. For 40 years they taught dance classes to raise money for charities.
One of Joan’s favourite places was “Century House,” a hand hewn log inn c1850, which they moved from Seabright to their lakefront property in Huntsville as a Centennial project, completed in 1967. Over the years it expanded to accommodate the growing family, and was a place of joyful gatherings.
Their shared Christian faith and love of music found expression in their involvement in church music in Christ Church Anglican in Brampton, All Saints in Huntsville, and St. Bartholomew’s in St. Petersburg, Fla.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Ferlisi, the incredible wound nurses, the medical team at Brampton Civic, and staff at Amica, Peel Village who have provided compassionate care.
Due to Covid restrictions, a private family service will be held at Christ Church, Brampton. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. To honour Joan, please consider a donation to Operation Smile, Christ Church Anglican, Brampton, or All Saints Anglican Church, Huntsville. Online condolences can be made on Joan’s Book of Memories page at www.wardfuneralhomes.com
Her heavenly Father has called her home. The terrible pain which she has endured for over a year is gone, and she can dance again.
