Former Honorary Consul-General J. (Jerome) Michael Viechweg died the evening of Wednesday December 2nd in his home in Brampton Ontario, his loving wife Margareta by his side. Third born child to parents Cyril and Rebecca Viechweg of Mount Moritz, Grenada, Michael and his brothers Charles and Paul and sisters Millicent, Gertrude and Lucy were raised with a strong sense of community which he held in high regard throughout his life. After years teaching in Grenada, he made the journey to Canada in 1967. He found work as a train porter carrying people’s bags and shining shoes. Through discipline, a strong work ethic and a firm sense of self he once again found success in the field of education as a teacher then as a principal. Following his retirement from teaching, Michael was appointed as Honorary Consul-General of Grenada in Toronto. He proudly served the Grenadian-Canadian community in this capacity from 1995 until his retirement in 2002.
Michael is survived by his wife Margareta Viechweg (nee Daniel), his sons Cyril and Michael, daughter Ayanna Wilson, her son Isaiah, step daughter Marcia Valentine, her children Jasmine and Grant, his brother Paul Viechweg and sister Lucy Noel (nee Viechweg).
