Jean Harvey

Marie Jean Harvey
(formerly Simpson)
January 10, 1919 – September 25, 2016
It is with deep sadness that we announce that Jean passed away peacefully at the Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital on Sunday, September 25, 2016 at the age of 97. She was predeceased by her husband, Dr. Henry (Harry) Guy Harvey and her brother, Ian Tindal. Jean was a devoted and loving mother and is survived by her daughter, Deborah-Lee Simpson, her son, Douglas Simpson and her daughter-in-law, Susan Brown.
Born in London, England, educated in Scotland, twice married before the war, she served as a RAF Sergeant on radar stations in southern England during World War II. During this time she met and married her third husband, Howard Spear Simpson, a lawyer from Montreal, serving as a RCAF Flight Lieutenant. In 1946 she returned with him to Montreal where they raised their two children. Following Howard’s death in 1959, Jean began a successful 30 year career in real estate, first in Montreal and later in Oakville, Ontario in partnership with her daughter, Deborah-Lee. In 1989, at the age of 70, she married Dr. Harry Harvey of Surrey, England. Harry moved to Canada and he and Jean settled in Victoria, B.C., enjoying a long and adventurous retirement with frequent cruises about the world. After Harry passed away in 2005, Jean moved back to Oakville to be close to her family. Jean had a long and interesting life and those who knew her will remember her smile, her sense of humor, her indomitable spirit and her devotion to her family and friends. While we are saddened by our loss, we are joyful for all the years we were blessed by her love and wisdom.
We wish to sincerely thank the outstanding and caring staff of the Complex Care Unit at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital who individually and as a team made her last two years as comfortable and fulfilling as possible. Jean felt happy and loved and was appreciative of their many acts of care and thoughtfulness. We also wish to express our heartfelt gratitude to Shirley Hind, an exceptional caregiver who added her love and attention to Jean’s final years. Words cannot express the peace of mind that our family had knowing how well they looked after her.
In accordance with Jean’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A Visitation will be held at Ward Funeral Home, Oakville Chapel, 109 Reynolds Street, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 27, 2016 and a Memorial Service and Celebration of her life will take place at the same location, at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 29, 2016.
Memorial donations may be made to the Arthritis Society or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada. Condolences, photographs and memories may be forwarded by visiting the Book of Memories at www.wardfuneralhome.com .
