The family of Jean Anne Calvert (né Belcher) are greatly saddened to announce her passing at the age of 85 on March 17, 2021. Predeceased by her beloved husband of 58 years, Bert Calvert. Also predeceased by her much loved infant son David. Best mother ever to her daughters Cindy of Ottawa and Karen Newman (Paul) of Mississauga. Cherished Nana to Matt, Sara, Emily, Raqib and Corina. Jean will be missed so much by her sister Edna Barratt, her special friend Morris, her sisters-in-law Ruth Calvert, Beryl Belcher, Barbara Belcher, and Theresa Belcher and their families. Jean will be fondly remembered and deeply missed by her many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and neighbours. Devoted to her family, Jean was predeceased by her parents, Hally and Claretta Belcher, two sisters and five brothers whom she loved dearly, three brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law. Jean was a member of the United Church of Canada throughout her life, and was a very active member of Westway United Church in Etobicoke since 1959 and will be missed by her church family. She worked as an Ophthalmic Assistant with Dr. Marvin Cooper for over 25 years. Jean enjoyed summers at the cottage in her hometown of Victoria Harbour, and loved sitting on the deck in the sun, watching swans on the lake, sunsets in the evening, and especially visiting with family and friends. She loved playing bridge and bid-euchre, traveling, quilting and was a fabulous cook, hosting many dinner parties and family celebrations. An online service will take place on Sunday, March 21 at 2:00 p.m. Interment will take place in the summer at Union Cemetery, Victoria Harbour. As expressions of sympathy, donations to Westway United Church (8 Templar Drive, Toronto, ON, M9R 3C7), Unity United Church (4967 Vasey Road, Midland, ON, L4R 4K3) or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada (110-1525 Carling Avenue, Ottawa, ON, K1Z 8R9) would be appreciated.
Respecting the current situation and pandemic restrictions, the funeral service will be private.
