(nee Buckley)
August 6, 1930 - September 10, 2022
Jean Marie Ahmed (nee Buckley), born in Gildersome, Yorkshire, U.K. passed away peacefully at Etobicoke General Hospital following a short illness. Predeceased by her loving husband of 67 years (Farid Ahmed), she was a wonderful mother to Neil (Gay Campbell) and Susan (Michael Barker). Loved by her grandchildren, Scott Ahmed (Sarah Stockdale), Andrew Ahmed, Savannah, Gillian and Emmett Barker, and her great grandson, Wesley Ahmed. Jean was predeceased by brother Kenneth Buckley and survived by sister Norma Saunders.
Jean was an ambitious woman and attended Bingley Teacher Training College in Yorkshire, then met her future husband during his time at Leeds University. They married in Alexandria, Egypt and made a new home in Ottawa. Jean took a position as an elementary school teacher there until the birth of Neil and then Susan. She joined the Unitarian Church where she later was instrumental in forming the Unitarian Fellowship in east Ottawa. She and her husband were fortunate to do significant travelling through his work and to visit family in England and Egypt.
Jean’s family would like to thank the EGH staff and teams of the Parkland on Eglinton West in Toronto and the Chartwell Rockcliffe Retirement Residence in Ottawa for their care of her. Please consider a donation to the Child Haven International or a charity of your choice in lieu of flowers. A private family celebration of life will be planned in the coming weeks.
