James Rainey, 86, of Toronto, Ontario, passed away peacefully, on October 20, 2022.
James was predeceased by his father, James, mother, Sarah (Cassidy), sisters Cathie (Madden), Janette (McNaught), Margaret (McLaughin), brothers Charlie, John and Billy, cousin Jack Cassidy (Priscilla), and son-in-law Aziz Farhat.
James is survived by his daughter Lynn Farhat of Dubai, grandson Sam Farhat of Dubai, UAE, granddaughter Olivia “Lily” Farhat (Onsi Sawiris) of Cairo, Egypt, brother-in-law Harry McNaught of Braintree, Massachusetts, nephew Harry McNaught of Quincy, Massachusetts, niece Sarah McNaught of Avon, Massachusetts, and cousin Moira Cassidy of Brampton, Ontario, along with many other nephews and nieces.
Originally from Rutherglen, Scotland, James immigrated to Canada in the late 1960’s and spent his life in the Toronto area. He had a long and successful career at De Havilland Aircraft of Canada, later to become Bombardier, as a quality control inspector. He retired in 2000 and spent a quiet life in retirement, often visiting family in the Boston area.
Like many Scots, James enjoyed a pint and pie in the pub along with a football game and spirited conversation. He looked forward to joining his friends and coworkers at the sports and leisure club he belonged to on match day. He was a wonderful storyteller and had a voracious appetite for historic figures and events. James enjoyed travelling and looked forward to ice fishing with his friends in North Bay, visiting his daughter and family in Dubai, and celebrating the winter holidays in Boston with family.
James was a helper. It was not uncommon for him to grocery shop for an infirm neighbour, Deli. His lively personality made him a colourful resident of the Greenway Retirement Home and in his last days, with the staff at Brampton Civic Hospital.
Thank you to all the staff at both facilities for their care and attention to James.
He made an impression on people until the very end.
