Cassidy, James (Jan. 25, 1917 – Aug. 7, 2012)
Peacefully, at Peel Manor in Brampton, in his 96th year, James was called by God to eternal life. He leaves his beloved wife of 55 years, Alice (nee Lambe), his children Michael (predeceased 2011), Marie and Jim (Janet) and his grandchildren Matthew, Brendan, and Rachael. James was born in Glasgow on Robbie Burns day, and came to Toronto at the age of 6 with his parents and 5 siblings. He was cripples by arthritis in his teens, but never let the handicap prevent him from living a productive life nor lessen his interest in sports, an interest he passed on to his children. He was a long time purchasing agent for Mother Parkers Foods, was an avid reader and bridge player, enjoyed music and poetry, and spent every summer vacation renting a cottage and fishing. It was inevitable that he met the love of his life at church as his Catholic faith was always a central focus. He moved the family to Brampton in 1968 and was a long time parishioner of St. Mary’s. James was a loyal Maple Leafs, Blue Jays, Notre Dame, and Glasgow Celtic fan. He was respected and admired for his determination by all who met him, and he was a true family man who will be greatly missed. Family and friends will be received at the Ward Funeral Home in Brampton, 52 Main Street South (Hwy 10), Friday from 2pm-4pm & 7pm-9pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday at 10:30 am from St. Mary’s Church, 66A Main Street South, Brampton. Interment Mt. Hope Cemetery.
