SILVA, Jaime Moniz
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dearest Jaime Moniz Silva – cherished husband to Sara, loving father to Joe, Ana (Billy), Jim (Margaret), Maria (John), Sarah (Glen) and Elizabeth (Emerson), adoring Avõ to Amanda, Justina, Ryan (Joanne), Lindsey, Derek (Caroline), Scott (Terri), Samantha (Michael), Courtney (Brian), Meagan, Travis, Jamie, Mitzi and Merik and caring Bisavõ to Winston, Arthur, Jack, Dante, Joshua, Aryanna, Abigail and Sonja.
On July 19th, 2022, Jaime died peacefully at home, with his wife by his side – after a long battle with multiple illnesses including dementia.
Jaime was born to Mariano and Maria Sao Jose, in Ribeira Grande, Azores. He shared his fond memories of his life in the Azores, including time spent with his surviving sister Maria (Hermano) and his predeceased brother Jose (Maria). He also shared wonderful stories of his time in the army, his family’s garden, and their pets.
Jaime and Sara married in 1956, and Jaime immigrated to Canada that same year. Jaime had multiple jobs over his working years and eventually opened Silva’s Grocery – a convenience store, butcher shop and a place to buy European products before the International Aisles were added to our grocery stores. He established wonderful friendships with his customers.
Family, church, and his garden were important to Jaime. He loved his family dearly and instilled strong values and a strong work ethic into all of them. He grew wonderful fruit trees, amazing vegetables, and beautiful flowers. And he was always willing to share his seeds, fruits and vegetables, so that others could benefit from them too. He loved animals, including rabbits, pigeons, the family cat and several family dogs. He was a great storyteller and a joker too.
Jaime will be missed dearly. Our loving memories of Jaime will remain in our hearts forever. He is living pain free now, with a sharp mind, surrounded by family, friends and God in heaven.
