Jackie was born in Barry’s Bay, Ontario, on October 22nd, 1931. She was the eldest of four children born to parents Paul and Stella Prince (née Skebo), who were the children of Polish immigrants. Jackie was predeceased by her brothers Kenneth, Orville and Jerome. She was a loving mother to her five children; Douglas (late spouse Dianne), David (spouse Monique), Michael (spouse Carolyn), Nancy (spouse Gilles) and Randy (spouse Megan). Jackie was also the proud Grandma/Mama of Christopher, Rebecca, Amy, Leah, Emily, Matthew, Jenna, Kate and Danica. She had two great grandchildren, Lain and Renly.

Jackie left her home in Barry’s Bay after high school to study nursing at the University of Ottawa, and pursue it as a career thereafter. She trained as a nurse at Ottawa Hospital after which she moved to Sarnia, Ontario. It was there that she met her future husband Murray Swift. After she married in April, 1957, Jackie put her career on hold to raise her five children. The family moved around southern Ontario but eventually settled in Toronto.
