Jacqueline “Jackie” Frances Swift (née Prince) passed away peacefully at Woodhall Park Care Community in Brampton on November 19th, 2020 at the age of 89.
Jackie was born in Barry’s Bay, Ontario, on October 22nd, 1931. She was the eldest of four children born to parents Paul and Stella Prince (née Skebo), who were the children of Polish immigrants. Jackie was predeceased by her brothers Kenneth, Orville and Jerome. She was a loving mother to her five children; Douglas (late spouse Dianne), David (spouse Monique), Michael (spouse Carolyn), Nancy (spouse Gilles) and Randy (spouse Megan). Jackie was also the proud Grandma/Mama of Christopher, Rebecca, Amy, Leah, Emily, Matthew, Jenna, Kate and Danica. She had two great grandchildren, Lain and Renly.
Jackie left her home in Barry’s Bay after high school to study nursing at the University of Ottawa, and pursue it as a career thereafter. She trained as a nurse at Ottawa Hospital after which she moved to Sarnia, Ontario. It was there that she met her future husband Murray Swift. After she married in April, 1957, Jackie put her career on hold to raise her five children. The family moved around southern Ontario but eventually settled in Toronto. After a lengthy absence from nursing, Jackie went back to school to retrain as a Public Health nurse in her mid 40’s. She then worked for the Borough of North York until her retirement at age 63.
Jackie was a devout Roman Catholic. She served/volunteered with the Church throughout her years in variouscapacities. Jackie was loved by her friends and fellow parishioners, fondly remembered as kind, compassionate and she had a big heart. Her smile will be missed.
Due to the Covid19 pandemic the family will hold a private funeral service at Ward Funeral Home, in Brampton, Ontario, followed by cremation.
