Jacqueline Batcup
June 24, 1934 – April 22, 2025
It is with sad hearts that we announce the passing of Jackie on the evening of April 22, 2025. Loving wife to Peter, mother to Simon (Voula) and Sarah (Richard), proud grandma to Jenna (Thess), Rhys (Ashley), Peter (Brandon), Evan (Catherine), Paul (Alyssa), very proud great grandmother to Sayla, Sayon and Elias and sister to Diana and Joanna. Mum was predeceased by her brother Henry.
Mum was born in Swansea, Wales in 1934 the first of four children to Mary and Hargrave Chidzoy. She was proud her whole life of her Welsh heritage with Welsh spoons hanging on walls around her condo and Welsh dragons on her teacups! That love could only be matched by her love for the Queen, who’s dignified persona she emulated so very well.
Mum and dad started dating at 13 years old, she and Peter were married when mum was 24 and they were happily married until 2020 when dad passed. Their marriage was and always will be an inspiration to her children.
If there was one thing that stood out or was mentioned when you met our mum it was how well put together she always was, particularly her long nails, always bright pink, always perfectly manicured. Even on the day before she left us, mum was sitting in the living room, a tray on her lap, taking care of them.
Mum hid a few things from us as kids; her dislike of vegetables and her love of something sweet. These only became apparent to us, when mum moved to Ontario to stay in December of 2024!
Other than a job working at Boots the Chemist in Swansea before being married, mum devoted herself to supporting Peter and us. As time allowed, Jackie volunteered in a variety of jobs; at the Royal Vic Hospital in Montreal, running fashion shows at the Whitlock Golf and Country Club, but most significantly volunteering at the Nova shop in Hudson Quebec, a job she loved and did for fourteen years.
Jackie moved to Montreal for the first time in 1978, then she and Peter moved back to the UK for four years, before returning to live in Hudson in 1987, a village where she developed many friendships. It was there mum and dad discovered golf and curling which they both took up with a passion. Her friends were so supportive when dad passed and then when mums’ health was challenged in 2022. Thank you Tory, Bill, Pat and Brian, the Hudson Gables community, particularly Marguerite and Andree, merci. Thanks also to Nancy and Ariane for all the support you gave mum.
As mum would frequently say “When I fall off the twig I don’t want a big fuss”. So, in keeping with her wishes, her remains have been cremated and her ashes will be reunited with dads.
Arrangements for a celebration of her life are being made and details will be announced shortly. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Nova Hudson (please see below).
