Jack Southorn

RAYMOND “JACK” SOUTHORN

With sadness, we announce the passing of Jack Southorn on Tuesday, September 3, 2024.

Jack was born in Toronto on January 9, 1941. He was the son of Mary Southorn Miller (nee Bell) and Eli Southorn; stepson of Joseph Miller. He was the brother of Audrey Southorn and Linda Davy (both deceased) and Marilyn Train (husband Rick) and Uncle to Kristen and Kyle.

The doctor who delivered Jack was not sure that Jack would survive the night due to breathing and other birth complications. But eighty-three years later, Jack demonstrated how he often “defied the odds”!

Jack loved Elvis, the Blue Jays, the Maple Leafs, bowling and The Young and The Restless. He also enjoyed his early school days at Haney Avenue Learning Centre. At age 21 Jack started at the Arc Workshop where he was employed until age 65. He retired, but then unretired and worked part time until 2017! He liked the work, the people, the activities and those special luncheons!

Central United Church and Central King have been a very important part of Jack’s life for the past thirty years. The friendship, kindness and support of residents and staff have been greatly appreciated. Etobicoke Senior Services has provided the help Jack needed to be independent.

Jack died about two and a half months after our sister Audrey passed away. He missed her very much and we take comfort in thinking that they are together again.
