Royal Canadian Air Force Veteran, Aerospace Engineer
Passed away peacefully Thursday, January 15, 2015 at home in Oakville in the arms of his adoring wife Doreen, who was also his dance and skiing partner of 30 years. He was surrounded by his loving family. Jack will live on in the hearts of his children and their spouses: Scott and Liz, Bill, Deidrie, Lesley and John, Meredith and Doug, Gary and Nancy, and Bonnie and Kelly. He was predeceased by his caring wife of 34 years Joyce Gardner. Jack’s zest for life continues through his grandchildren and their spouses: Elicia and Sam, Jonathan and Katie, Nathan and Nicole; Sarah, Lindsay and Jordan; Jamie and Tadan Jack; Alexandria and Keith, Katie and Mike, Christine, John, Emily, and Gardner; James and Peter; Kourtney, Kelsey, Karley and Kolby. Jack’s great-grandchildren: Hudson and Ella, Marley and Brooklyn carry his legacy and youthful passion for all things exciting and new.
As a Royal Canadian Air Force Veteran, flight instructor and engineer, Jack was a key developer of Canadian aerospace technology strategy for Garrett Manufacturing for over 30 years. A passionate builder of all things, his family fondly remembers reams of graph paper strewing the floor, containing plans to build everything from sport programs to houses.
Jack’s love of sport encompassed being a world-class backyard rink builder, teaching the neighbourhood children how to swim and skate and organizing seniors’ golf tournaments. His proudest accomplishment as Chairperson of the Canadian Freestyle Ski Association was playing a role in developing an Olympic Freestyle legacy for Canada.
He remained a passionate volunteer in retirement, teaching seniors to adapt to new technologies and serving at St. Cuthbert’s Anglican Church. In his 70’s, Jack became a Level 1 ski instructor so he could teach his grandchildren to ski. A true gentleman who cared for everyone’s feelings in the many people whose lives he touched, Jack Gardner is now dancing in heaven and skiing some powdery clouds.
