J. Gordon Bruce

BRUCE, Joseph Gordon
Joseph Gordon Bruce December 11, 1923 – January 26, 2014
It is with great sorrow and heavy hearts that we announce the death of our father. Gordon was born in Haileybury, Ontario. He was the son of Robert and Beatrice and the second youngest of 9 children; predeceased by Bobby, Lorne, Alan, Edwin, Eileen, Gerald and Norman. He is survived by his brother Hugh. Gordon is now reunited in heaven with his one and only true love and best friend Clare Stephens (1975). Gordon will be lovingly missed by all of his children Teresa (Gary Mittelholtz deceased 2010), Tom (Kathy), Dan (Liz), Eileen (Bob Moran), Marty, Pat, Larry (Barb), Kathleen (Tony Herzuk), Joe, and Julia (Fabian Marquez). He will also be forever loved and cherished by all of his 30 grandchildren; Christine (Greg), Erin, Brendan, Rory, Alex (Ola), Eric, Adrienne, Ian, Amanda (Brian), Melissa, Ricky, Nicholas, Julia, Michelle, Colin, Teresa, Jeff (Nancy), Clare (Ryan), Laura, Christopher, Justin, Sean, Kevin, Stephanie (John), Greg, Josh, Meghan, Cameron, Tommy, and Robert. Gordon was also blessed with 12 great-grandchildren; Ava, Will, Andie, Andrew, Olivia, Robert, Olivia, Graeson, Jacob, Madelyn, Joseph and Emma. Gordon will also be loved and missed by all of his many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
Gordon served his beloved Canada in World War II in the RCAF. Gordon generously volunteered in Our Lady of Victory Parish community where he served the St. Vincent de Paul Society and the Snack program. Gordon was an avid reader and a great thinker who bucked the status quo. He made us all think. His passions were his Roman Catholic religion, his beloved wife Clare, and all of his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He served them all well. Relatives and friends will be received at Ward Funeral Home, 2035 Weston Rd, Toronto (north of Lawrence Ave) on Friday from 2-4, and 7-9. The Funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, February 1st, 2014 at 11:00 at Our Lady of Victory Roman Catholic Church, 117 Guestville Ave, Toronto (Weston Rd & Eglinton Ave.). Interment to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Thornhill. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Our Lady of Victory – Restoration Fund or Mass intentions for Gordon would be greatly appreciated.
