Irene Mary Moneypenny (nee Farrell)
May 19, 1934 – August 23, 2023
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our mother, Irene Moneypenny, on Wednesday, August 23, 2023, at Woodhall Park Care Community in Brampton. She is survived by daughter Susan (Bud Mason) and son Greg (Tina Villa), as well as her four grandchildren, Leanne and Eric Mason, and Samantha and Madelyn Moneypenny. She is also survived by her brother Donald Farrell of Long Beach, California, niece and nephew, Trish and Edward Farrell, as well as niece and nephew Theresa and Graham Kind. Predeceased by her parents Irene Colver Farrell (1954), Gerard (Gerry) Farrell (1989), stepmother Agnes Farrell (2004), and sister Mary Margaret Kind (1972).
Irene was born and raised in Montreal, Que. and lived there until 1962 when she moved to Brampton, ON. Once her kids were in school, Irene went to work part-time and took in boarders to make ends meet. Later she upgraded her secretarial skills and resumed her career at Northern Telecom – a job she loved. When she retired from Northern, she spent her time traveling, volunteering, and enjoying activities, such as line dancing, aqua fitness, and of course shopping. Despite a host of health issues like rheumatoid arthritis and a stroke in 2011, Irene stayed active until the onset of dementia made it difficult for her to continue living independently. Irene was a devout, long-time member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Brampton and a proud member of the Catholic Women’s League.
Irene lived life to the fullest and was grateful for every blessing she received.
We would like to thank all the staff at Woodhall Park for their kindness and compassion in looking after our mom since 2021. We will be forever grateful for their care.
Visitation will take place at Ward Funeral Home, 52 Main Street South, Brampton, on Tuesday, August 29th from 6:00-9:00pm.
