Irene Christman (Wade) March 9, 1922 – January 3, 2021
It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Irene Christman (Wade) on January 3, 2021 in her 99th year. Irene was predeceased by her husband Ross (1987) and son Kenneth (2004). She is lovingly remembered by her daughter Kerri, son-in-law Herb and her relatives in the United Kingdom.
Her tender heart embraced family, friends and neighbours of all ages and particularly furry four-footed creatures. The family extends a special thanks to her neighbours and relatives across the pond for always brightening her day with a visit or a phone call.
Born in in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, England in 1922, she emigrated to Canada at the age of four with her parents, Maurice and Doris (Tolson)Wade. Irene excelled in school and particularly math so she was naturally drawn to numbers and calculations. She was a bookkeeper for most of her working life and secretary to the president of Archer Daniels. Irene was a tenacious and unrelenting perfectionist. In later years she would scrutinize shopping receipts to ensure they were correct and to her satisfaction. She also insisted that her strict adherence to expiry dates on foods contributed to her longevity.
Irene met her future husband, Ross at a dance at the Palais Royale in Toronto. There began a romance that culminated in their marriage in 1940. Dancing was a pastime the two shared throughout their years together and where they formed many lasting friendships. Irene often remarked that “they danced their way through life”. She maintained her love of music throughout her lifetime and spent many a day both listening to and singing along to her favourites. Sadly, today the music died.
Irene will be missed beyond words, but has left us with some invaluable lessons and our hearts full of wonderful memories.
Respecting the current situation and pandemic restrictions, interment will be private.
We thank you for your understanding and encourage you to provide your condolences to the family through Mrs Christman's memorial page.
