Inocencio Bettencourt
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Inocencio on Friday November 3, 2023 at the age of 76. Loving husband of Zelia for 51 years. Proud father of Alexandra (Jack). Dear brother of Antonio (Filomena) and the late Natercia. Inocencio will be sadly missed by his many family and friends.
Inocencio was born and raised in the Azores. As an adolescent, during one autumn festival, Inocencio met a lovely girl named Zelia. At the time no one knew that she would become his devoted bride. Many years later the young couple married in Bermuda. This was one of the few plane rides that Zelia would take; for Inocencio there were many more.
In the 1970’s the young couple moved to the USA and then settled in Canada. In 1975 their cherished daughter arrived.
At the age of 17, Inocencio enlisted with the Portuguese Air forces. He was able to fulfill his childhood dream of flying and it was during his time in the forces that his interest in aero engineering developed. He spent the rest of his career as an aircraft technician working for McDonnell Douglas, Boeing, and Bombardier. Many family outings were spent at the airport watching the planes fly in and out of Pearson. Dad would be able to identify each and every one of them.
Inocencio had a love for being in the air as he had for the sea. He enjoyed fishing, swimming and was at peace being near water. It was his escape. As a child, he spent many days at the ocean, even when his parents forbade him to; this was his quiet time where he spent dreaming and reflecting on life.
A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, November 14th, 2023 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church 66 Main St., S. Brampton at 1:00p.m.
As expressions of sympathy, donations to charity would be appreciated.
