It is with deep sadness that the family of Ian Malcolm Phelps, 84, of Brampton, Ontario announces his passing on Saturday, December 3rd, 2022.
Born to Herbert Sr. and Lillian Idain January 1938 in Trinidad and Tobago, he moved to England in early adulthood. It was therehe met and married his loving wife of 60 years, Clodagh, with whom he went on to be the proud father of four children and eventually moved back to Trinidad, before settling in Canada in 1974.
After completing his studies, he began his career in the auto industry working on the team that built the first fleet of public transit buses in Trinidad and Tobago, owning multiple businesses and completing his working years with a thriving career at Daimler Chrysler, where he built friendships that remained strong to the end of his life.
In his retirement he spent his time embracing his lifelong love of automobiles, including repairing cars and attending auctions, as well as travelling, completing “do it yourself” projects and home improvements, and spending time with his family and friends.
Ian was predeceased by parents Herbert and Lillian Ida Phelps, older sister Elsie and older brothers Carson, Martin and Herbert Junior.
He is survived by his wife Clodagh, sons Eric (Karen) and Andre (Vanessa), daughters Lisa (Robert) and Alana (Dominic), granddaughters Daron and Delaney, grandsons Benjamin and Cole, brother Cliveand sisters Fay and Jacqueline.
Ian will be remembered as a loving father, grandfather, father-in-law, brother, uncle and friend whose sense of humour, resilience, entrepreneurial spirit and determination guided him through life.
A celebration of life will be held at Ward Funeral Home in Brampton on Monday, December 12th, 2022 at 1 p.m.The service will be streamed online for those who cannot attend in person.
