Hylda Thomson

Hylda Ruth Thomson passed away at her home in Stevensville, Ontario at the age of 83 after a struggle with cancer. Hylda lived a life dedicated to her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. She regularly prayed for all her children, grandchildren, and all she met, hoping each of them would find healing and salvation in Christ as well. She was surrounded by her children and a number of her grandchildren singing hymns, reading scripture and sharing memories. The daughter of Rita Martin (nee Waghorne) and Harold Martin, she was born in Chatham, Ontario on May 25, 1933. Hylda was married for nearly 60 years to W. Nelson Thomson. They met during their undergraduate studies at McMaster University. She completed her degree in library science at Concordia University. Along with her husband Nelson, she used her talents to help launch the Faculté de Théologie Evangélique in Montreal. She became the school’s librarian, shaping a resource that would help many students. She held this position until her retirement. She was preceded in death by her husband Nelson who passed away February 27, 2014. She was a loving mother to her children and their spouses: Cathie (David) Currey, Deborah (Patrick) Belanger, Mary Ellen (Michel) Belzile, Michael (Renita) Thomson, and Matthew (Sherri-Lynne) Thomson. Beloved Nan to all her grandchildren: Carolyn, Janice, Dana (Adam), Christa, Sara (Owen), Andrew, Naomi, Elyssa, Jeremy (Daphné), Nicolas, Tristan, Joshua (Nefeli), Genevieve, Jonathan, Benjamin, Hannah, Noah, Bronwen, Noah, Isaac, and Sydnie. Loving Great-Grandmother to: Anastasia, Philip and Ryan.
We would like to thank especially our sister, Cathie Currey, for her untiring care of Mom as she declined with cancer. We thank her many caregivers, especially Dr. Kim Scher as well as oncologist Dr. Blair Leonard, Nurse Gillian Mathieson and all the oncology nurses at the Walker Family Cancer Centre. Thank you to the pastoral staff at First Baptist, Fort Erie. Visitation to be held on Tuesday December 27 from 7‎-9 pm at Ward Funeral Home (109 Reynolds St, Oakville, ON L6J 3K4). Visitation also on the 28th at 10 am at Central Baptist Church (340 Rebecca St, Oakville, ON L6K 1K3). The funeral will follow at 11 am with reception to follow in the church hall.
Family and close friends are invited to gather for the interment at Whitevale Cemetery at 2:30 pm (Whitevale Rd, Pickering, ON L0H 1J0).

Hylda Ruth Thomson est décédée à son domicile de Fort Erie, en Ontario, à l'âge de 83 ans après un combat courageux avec le cancer. Hylda a vécu une vie dévouée à son Seigneur et Sauveur Jésus-Christ. Elle priait régulièrement pour tous ses enfants, ses petits-enfants, et pour chaque personne qu'elle rencontrait, en espérant que chacun puisse découvrir la vie et le salut en Christ. Lors de son décès, elle était entourée de ses enfants et de plusieurs de ses petits-enfants, qui lui chantaient des hymnes, lisaient les Écritures Saintes et partageaient amour et souvenirs. Né de Rita Martin (né Waghorne) et de Harold Martin, à Chatham Ontario le 25 mai 1933. Hylda était mariée pendant près de 60 années à W. Nelson Thomson. Ils se sont rencontrés au cours de leurs études de premier cycle à l'Université McMaster. Elle a complété son baccalauréat en bibliothéconomie à l'Université Concordia. Avec son mari Nelson, elle a offert ses talents pour servir la Faculté de Théologie Evangélique à Montréal. Elle est devenue la bibliothécaire de l'école, créant une ressource qui soutiendrait plusieurs étudiants. Elle a occupé ce poste jusqu'à sa retraite. Son mari Nelson Thomson est décédé avant elle, le 27 février 2014. Une maman dévouée qui aimait ses enfants et leurs conjoints: Cathie (David) Currey, Deborah (Patrick) Belanger, Mary Ellen (Michel) Belzile, Michael (Renita) Thomson et Matthew (Sherri-Lynne) Thomson. Nan, bien-aimée de tous ses petits-enfants: Carolyn, Janice, Dana (Adam), Christa, Sara (Owen), Andrew, Naomi, Elyssa, Jeremy (Daphné), Nicolas, Tristan, Joshua (Nefeli), Geneviève, Jonathan, Benjamin, Hannah, Noah, Bronwen, Noah Isaac, et Sydnie. Arrière grand-mère bien-aimée d’Anastasia, Philip et Ryan.
Nous remercions particulièrement notre soeur, Cathie Currey, pour les soins précieux envers notre maman alors qu'elle souffrait de sa maladie. Nous remercions tous ceux qui ont prit soin de notre mère, Dre Kim Scher ainsi que son oncologue, Dre Blair Leonard et son infirmière Gillian Mathieson, ainsi que toutes les infirmières en oncologie du Walker Family Cancer Center. Merci également aux pasteurs de l’église First Baptist, Fort Erie.
La visite funéraire aura lieu le mardi 27 décembre de 19h à 21h au Ward Funeral Home (109, rue Reynolds, Oakville, ON L6J 3K4), ainsi que le 28 décembre à 10 heures à l'église baptiste centrale (340 rue Rebecca, Oakville, ON L6K 1K3). Les funérailles suivront à 11 heures.
La cérémonie de mise en terre pour la famille et les proches aura lieu au cimetière Whitevale à 14 h 30 (chemin Whitevale, Pickering, ON L0H 1J0).
