Herman Dysselhof

Herman Dysselhof passed away peacefully at Holland Christian Homes on Tuesday, October 18, 2016 in his 86th year. Beloved husband of Margaretha Dysselhof (Romkes) for 63 years. Dear father of Eddy of Brampton, Diana and her husband John of Arthur, and Rick and his wife Marian of Mississauga. Cherished grandfather (Opa) to Jennifer and her husband Steve, Jeff and his wife Elissa, Leah and her husband Tyler, Mitchell, Colin and his wife Jennifer, and Jake. Loving great-grandfather to Dylan, Adam, Hailey, Danielle, Mayla, Shanna, Colben, and Riley.

Herman was born in Avereest, Holland, in December 1930 to Egbert and Jantina Dysselhof. He attended school in Holland and studied to be draftsman. After a stint in the Dutch army, Herman followed his sweetheart, Margaretha, to Canada in 1952. He left Holland in November 1952 aboard the freighter Leerdam and arrived in New York City in December. Herman and Margaretha were married in January 1953. They moved 14 times to various locations in Southwestern Ontario, finally settling in Etobicoke and then Brampton.

In Canada, Herman worked as a draftsman for a number of years and eventually established his own business in sheet metal fabrication in Mississauga. He worked hard to make a good life for his family.
Herman will be remembered by his friends and family for his independent spirit and generous heart. He will be missed.
