It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved matriarch, Helen Tonus (nee Catenacci) on January 19, 2025, in her 92nd year. Helen was born in Toronto on October 4, 1932, to Pietro and Archangela.

Helen is now reunited with her cherished husband Ilario, with whom she shared four children. She was a devoted mother to Christine (Peter), Jo Ann (Robert), Perry (Samantha), and Sandra (Ed). Doting grandmother to Michael (Jessica), Richard (Dayla), Peter (Jaclyn), Diana (Steve), Jason (Mesha), Stephanie, Matthew, Olivia (Billy), Jayden, Isabella and Elliot. Proud great grandmother of Austin, Farrah, Ethyn, Liam, Noah, and Claire.

Helen's life is a testament to passion, perseverance, and love for her family. As an accomplished cook, she mastered a wide range of European dishes, bringing joy to many with her culinary talents. She was instrumental in the smooth operations of several family businesses which showcased her business acumen, ensuring everything ran efficiently behind the scenes.

Beyond her professional achievements, Helen was a devoted mother who prioritized her children's education. She encouraged them to embrace a well-rounded life, supporting their interests in music, dance, and sports. Through it all, she instilled in them the value of hard work—a lesson that has shaped their lives and successes.

Helen's legacy is one of nurturing both in the kitchen and at home, a blend of dedication and heart that will always be cherished.

Family and friends will be received at the Ward Funeral Home (4671 Highway 7, Woodbridge) from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, January 31, 2025, as well as 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 1, 2025. Funeral service to follow at 11:00 a.m. in the Ward Funeral Home Chapel. A private family interment will take place at a later date.

Memorial donations may be made in Helen's name to the SickKids Foundation.
