STRONG, Helen Bernice
Helen Bernice Strong (Mullins) originally from Maidstone, passed away peacefully with family by her side in Oakville in her 98th year. Bernice will at last be with her beloved husband Syl after many years (Sylvester Bernard Strong, 1987). Nothing was more important to her than her family. Gathering for weekends at the lake, enjoying boat rides, and watching her family grow. She always felt fortunate to be able to travel to Europe, enjoy theatre, and celebrate Christmas and holidays with family. She was a woman of many talents: knitting, sewing, baking, and enjoying a friendly game of euchre. She is sadly predeceased by her son Mike and daughter-in-law Kay (Quinlan), sons Gary and Dave, as well as son-in-law Jim Otterson. Cherished mother of Cathy (Joe Lepera) of Oakville, Suzanne (Jim Otterson d) of Meaford, and John (Cathy) Amherstburg. Bernice is also survived by her sister Agnes Eyraud of Essex. She is predeceased by 10 brothers and sisters. She will be sadly missed by her 6 grandchildren: Lisa (Jim) Highfield, Mount Bridges; Amie (Vince) Malvaso, Niagara Falls; Craig Strong (Nicki), Mooretown; Matthew, Joseph and Sarah Lepera, Oakville. Bernice was also so proud of her 8 great-grandchildren: Adam, Devin, Lauren Highfiled; Alessandra, Gianluca and Sofia Malvaso; Claire and Michael Strong.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at her current parish, St. Matthew’s Roman Catholic Church in Oakville, at 11 am on Monday, January 11. A Memorial Mass and Celebration of her wonderful life will be held at St. John the Evangelist Church in Woodslee at a later date followed by Interment at St. John’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, it was her request for donations to be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, or the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada for Research. The family wishes to thank the wonderful team at the Waterford Long Term Care Residence for their caring and compassionate care, especially in her last days.
