It is with great sadness that the family of Gwendoline (Gwen) Arseneault (née Venn, 1926-2019) announces her death at the age of 93 on November 13. Gwen lived a long and interesting life, emigrating to Canada as a war bride from her childhood home of Crowhurst, England after marrying her wartime sweetheart, Edgar (Eddie) Arseneault. In Canada, Gwen lived in Montreal, Toronto, St. Thomas (ON) and Charlo (NB), where she initially thought she lived across a large field, only to discover after the ice melted that she was on the shoresof Bay Chaleur.
Gwen is pre-deceased by her husband of 63 years, Eddie, as well as her sons, Robert, John, and Philip; her sister, Margaret; son-in-law, Mike; and daughter-in-law, Joan. Fondly remembering Gwen are her daughter Jackie and daughter-in-law Joanne; grandchildren Greg (Olie), Kristin (Kieran), Katie (Ian), Steven, Sean (Seang), Robert (Kelly), and Lisa (Leon); and great-grandchildren Declan, Alex, Simon, Parker, Justin, Travis, Rylan, Haven, Jessica, Emily, and Madeline, in addition to a large circle of family and friends.
Gwen’s family has fond memories of visits to the Lucky Dollar Store; her love of wine gums, Vegas, and the Blue Jays; and the clacking of her knitting needles that were the soundtrack to her leisure time for many years.
A celebration of Gwen’s life will be held after cremation. Details to follow. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to a charity that supports veterans, such as theLegion Poppy Fund, Canadian Legacy Project, or Friends of Veterans Canada.
