After spending one last Christmas season with her cherished family, Graziella Martinelli passed away peacefully in Toronto on December 28th 2023. She was 96-years-young, a playful spirit, with a ready laugh that could fill the largest of rooms.
Born to Giustina and Tommaso Trentadue in the Italian town of Modugno on June 8th, 1927, Graziella was the youngest of three siblings, Giuseppe, Ninetta and Rosa.
Her late husband of sixty-three years, Michele Martinelli was the love of her life. After living in Venezuela for a few years as newlyweds, they moved to Canada on January 8th 1956 where they raised two children they adored, Angela (Anthony) and Francesco (Pat).
Graziella was a devoted grandmother who shaped the lives of her four grandchildren. (Lisa, Vanessa, Samantha, and Michael) They will always remember Nonna’s good-natured jokes, idyllic afternoons together in the fruit and vegetable garden, joyful celebrations with singalongs to Italian ballads from the sixties, and traditional recipes lovingly prepared and shared with warm hospitality. The grandchildren may never perfect Nonna’s famous cheesecake, but they promise to never stop trying.
Graziella’s strong faith, positive outlook, wisdom and grace helped her through every challenge. She was always most grateful for all the love and support she received, and bestowed blessings on everyone for their kindness. Cheerful and compassionate, Graziella lives on in the hearts of her family and friends.
