It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Gérald Fortier on December 23, 2022, in his 61st year. Gérald was born to Paul-Émile and Rolande Fortier in Montmagny, Québec on August 6, 1962.
Beloved husband of Erica for 30 years. Cherished and devoted father of Émilie and Julien. Predeceased by his dear sister Lise and by his father-in-law Vincenzo, survived by his brothers in law Gérald and Marc, and his mother-in law Isabella. He will be lovingly remembered by his nephews Yannick (Edith), Steve and Guillaume, his extended family and friends.
A proud graduate from l’Université Laval, and a successful translator by trade. He moved to Toronto from Québec where he put down roots and had a family. He will be fondly remembered for his love of languages and literature, and dry sense of humor. He was a man who embraced culture and the pursuit of knowledge about the world. He was a passionate Habs fan (even in Toronto) and an avid athlete – basketball, baseball and whitewater rafting were among his favourites.
The family wishes to sincerely thank the personal support workers, nurses and doctors who cared for him.
He lived his life surrounded by his loving family and friends. He will forever remain in the hearts of all who loved him. He has left us heartbroken and grieving.
Private cremation to follow. Memorial donations may be made to the Huntington’s Society of Canada.
