Anna Grace Thompson (nee Wauchope)
After a long and difficult illness, Grace passed away on September 30, 2019, in her 98th year.
Born in Schomberg on July 21, 1922, to Nellie and Art Wauchope, Grace spent her childhood in North Bay with sisters Mary and Barbara. She married John Thompson, her best friend, and the boy next door, on January 10, 1947 and they settled in Woodbridge, where they have resided ever since. Grace led a full and busy life, raising 3 daughters, working first for the Village of Woodbridge, then the Town of Vaughan, and finally the Region of York. As well, Grace volunteered for decades for the Penny-Wise in Woodbridge, her Church (Christ Church Anglican in Woodbridge), for the Cancer Society and many other charities. Mom was recognized many times throughout the years for her charitable work.
Grace will be greatly missed by her loving husband of 72 years, John, by her daughters Judy (Mike) Lemche, Joanne Wilcox and Nancy (Ed) Walker and her sister Barbara McCully. Grace will also be lovingly remembered by her grandchildren Kris, Matt (Arun), Jen, Daniel (Cindy), Megan (Gabe), Will (Erica), Andy, and Brian (Travis), and 2 great grandchildren John and Jaime. Grace will also be fondly remembered by her best friend Mary Kidd (Thompson). Grace was predeceased by her sister Mary McCaugue.
We would like to thank all of Mom’s private caregivers (especially Kaiesha and Doris), and the many PSWs from Queens Estate, where Mom spend her last months, for the wonderful care she received during her long illness.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., October 12, 2019, at Christ Church Anglican, 8045 Islington Ave, Woodbridge. A reception will follow at Ward Funeral Home, 4671 Hwy. 7, Woodbridge. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, a donation be made to the charity of your choice. Please visit www.wardfuneralhome.com to sign the condolence book or to make a donation in Grace’s memory.
