Gordon Marrett

Gordon (Gord) Edward Marrett – husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, electrician, builder, tinkerer and fixer, gardener, golfer, fisherman – died peacefully August 19, 2015 at Christie Gardens. He was 96.
Gord was born to Ethel Mary (Capie) and Edward John (Harry) Marrett in Toronto, on April 7th, 1919. He was a devoted and loving husband to Dolores (Roundell), who predeceased him by just a few months, loving father of Lorie (Stephen), Doug (Mary Ann), Bruce (Joan), Brian (Dawn), and Arlene (Bill), grandfather of 10 and great-grandfather of 17.
As a youth he caddied at the Lambton Golf Club where he developed a lifelong passion for golf. His career at General Electric spanned 45 years, highlighted by meeting the love of his life, Dolores. They married September 12, 1941 and spent 73 years deeply in love. Every day they enjoyed a “happy hour” together.
Gord had an infectious smile, was generous with his time and a devoted family man. He loved spending time with his grandchildren taking rides on the subway, trips to CN Tower, Centre Island and Niagara Falls, fishing and hockey games. He encouraged his children and grandchildren to pursue their dreams, and was so proud of their accomplishments.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday September 19th from 1 to 3 PM at Glendale Cemetery and Funeral Home (1810 Albion Road | Etobicoke, ON).
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society or The Christie Gardens Foundation.
