Gloria Jean Schinkel, nee Connor
Passed in peace December 3, 2014 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She fought so bravely and stoically that she was in fact dubbed the Mohammed Ali of the disease by family and friends. Not one to normally enjoy being the centre of attention Gloria blossomed as she embraced the love of her family and friends and her extended family the caring staff at Bethell Hospice in Inglewood where she spent her final days.
Gloria was an extraordinarily devoted grandmother to her grandsons, her very reason for being, Noah and Griffin gifted to her by her daughter Anne Marie and Lucas and Austin by her son Steven. Predeceased by mother Anne, her eldest brother Lionel, and younger siblings, the twins Sam (Hoot) and Sylvia (Sibby), she will be fondly remembered by her remaining siblings, Patricia (Trish), Jill, Gomer (Debbie) and Vickie (her rock) (Jim, her driver who will forever know her as his Miss Daisy) and all her nieces and nephews and their families. She will also be remembered and deeply missed by Kori Gauthier, the daughter of her heart and her very close friend Jean Marie Hunter. A special thanks to her life long friends Mary, Gus, Toppy, Sue, and her special friends from work Barb and Len, Kim, Liz, Carlene and Margaret who's visits always left her smiling.
Gloria spent the last 20 years of her career as a cook at Woodhall Park, a senior's residence in Brampton. She was an avid reader and gardener.
Family and Friends will be received at the Ward Funeral Home “Brampton Chapel”, 52 Main Street South (Hwy 10), Brampton on Sunday December 7, 2014 from 2-4 & 7-9 pm.
Funeral Service will be held on Monday December 8, 2014 at 1pm in the chapel.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate a donation to Bethell Hospice in Inglewood.
What a thing it is, a life. 'What the caterpillar perceives is the end, to the butterfly is just the beginning.'
