Gladys would speak fondly of her childhood. She enjoyed running around in her neighbourhood playing games like tag, climbing up fruit trees to enjoy their sweet nectar, helping her mother sell goods in the market and spending hours of her time chatting with loved ones.
Gladys had an amazing and adventurous adulthood. She had her first child (Jimmy Gavilanes) at the age of 20. In order to have a better opportunity for herself and her family, she immigrated to NYC at the age of 28 where she lived for 3 years. she then proceeded to immigrate to Toronto to be alongside her sister (Juana Sanchez) by 1988. There She met her husband (Manuel Plaza) and birthed three kids (Elvis, Eric and Dianna). She had the opportunity to also be a great grandmother to 4 beautiful grandchildren (Jose, Justin, Aaron and Alessandro). Gladys proceeded to take on the full role of a mother, friend, grandmother, sister and aunt and passed along many life lessons, memorable moments, her contagious smile and her love, to all her children.
Gladys was best known by her friends and family as someone who can get you to smile and laugh. Her facial expression and inappropriate jokes would leave you gasping for air.
