Gladys Pitman (nee Bland) is again dancing to the Wurlitzer with her beloved husband of 67 years, Ernie Pitman (deceased).
The Pitman Family mourns the loss of Gladys, in her 91st year, loving mother to Lorie (Kenneth Mason), Michael, and Philip (Anne-Marie Denieuwe); Cara-Lyn McCoy (deceased), Peter Wall, and sister-in-law of Linda Janes (Ron). Gladys was also a proud Nana to Kristen (Wayne), Sarah Ramsbottom (James), Rachel Freeman (Lewis), Trevor Wall (Kendra), Megan and Mackenzie (Christy), Kevin Baird, and a great-grandmother to Mitchell, Tess, Sophie, Jack, Monty, Kiefer, Silas and Theodore.
Gladys was simply and affectionately known as “Nana” to all those around her; a name she cherished as our matriarch. She was an avid bibliophile, traveller, theatre-goer,craftsman, listener, and advisor. Yet, her most treasured role was that of a Mother and Nana. Gladys relished in being close to her family and loved to be able to provide both ordinary to extraordinary experiences for her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Gladys grew-up in Malton near her grandparent’s where she learned the value of closeness with family. After being named an exemplary community member and Ms. Malton in the late 1940’s she met the love of her life, Ernie at Abel’s Drug store soda fountain, in Malton. With Ernie, Gladys raised her family and continued to give to her community throughout her life as a proud philanthropist to many people and organizations, in particular The Ernest and Gladys Pitman Cardiac Procedures Unit at William Osler Hospital.
Gladys (Nana) will be forever remembered by several generations as the backbone of our family.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the William Osler Health System Foundation
